Utah UAFP Legislative Report

We have been working hard on Capitol Hill looking out for your interests. There are several issues that need attention. We have been working with the Utah Medical Assocition and other groups to protect your interests. After the 2008 session is over, our communication will include a detail of what we worked on for you. It is important that we have a presence at the Capitol. Many times we are affected and are subject to unintended consequences of the actions of others. In the future their may be issues that we need to have addressed in bills sponsored by the association. We are there to represent all family physicians and their interests. It is important that we go there with a united voice.

Additional information will be available following the 2008 legislative session

Help AAFP Increase Federal Budget Health Spending
Febraury 23, 2007
- In two weeks, the Budget committees in the House and Senate will establish a Budget Resolution for 2008 establishing federal spending limits. This resolution includes funding for federal health programs.

What happens if the resolution does not include enough funds for Budget Function 550? Key public health programs including health professions training will be shortchanged.

We need your voice. Unite for family medicine in two easy steps.

  1. By March 12, please contact your Senators and Representative by phone using the Capitol Switchboard at (202) 224-3121 or by e-mail using AAFP's Speak Out program.

  2. Tell them to insist that the Budget Resolution includes an increase of $4 billion for Function 550 above fiscal year 2007.

P.S. If you have a personal relationship with the Representative, speak with the legislator directly. If not, ask to speak with the legislative staff member who handles budget or health issues.
